3 players Chiefs could move up to draft
1. Bryan Bresee
The Chiefs’ front office hasn’t hesitated to spend significant resources to find a complimentary pass rusher to pair with Chris Jones but it hasn’t been successful as of yet. That’s why trading up for an edge rusher in Round 1 makes the most sense out of all the options available to Kansas City’s front office.
Bresee is another player whose stock has taken a dip since the beginning of his 2022 collegiate season. He missed time due to a kidney ailment and suffered a devastating personal loss with the death of his sister at the hands of cancer back in September.
Being faced with those setbacks is why a savvy front office like the Chiefs could bet on him as a “buy low” candidate in Round 1. Some mocks have him falling all the way into Round 2, but he’s a good bet to be snapped up somewhere in the 15-25 range as long as his medicals check out during the pre-draft process.
At his best, Bresee can be a versatile chess piece up front for Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. He has the quickness to play on the outside but also the brawn to work at defensive tackle in sub packages. A defensive front featuring Jones, Bresee, and George Karlaftis could give Kansas City a ferocious front to work with.
The Chiefs have to come away with a quality edge rusher in this year’s draft and a trade-up in Round 1 is the best way to fill the team’s biggest void. Bresee may never become a superstar but he’s a solid bet to perform as an above-average starter early in his professional career.
