The LIV Golf TV rating for the league’s debut on network television with The CW is out and the numbers for the Mayakoba event were shockingly awful.

Streaming on YouTube for its inaugural season was one of the key areas of focus for LIV Golf as they looked to expand its brand. They wanted to get out of that arena and land a TV deal, which they eventually did with The CW. And this week for the LIV Golf Invitational Mayakoba event, we saw the debut on the network.

How did it do for the first time on Saturday? Well, the LIV Golf TV rating is in for its first network broadcast and the results aren’t good — in fact, they’re almost worse than anyone could’ve expected.

As reported by John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal, the Mayakoba event drew only a 0.2 rating on Saturday for its network TV debut in the 26 measured markets.

For context, that means that, of the measured households, only 0.2% of them watched the golf broadcast on Saturday.

That in itself sounds bad, but it looks even worse when you compare it to other programming on The CW.

As Joel Beall of Golf Digest noted, the video compilation show World’s Funniest Animals also aired on Saturday drew more viewers than LIV Golf did. That’s a tough scene.

When Greg Norman and the Saudi-backed league made their presence felt in the first season of the golf league last year, they drew a sizable audience early on but the numbers dwindled with each passing week throughout the season. Apparently, a jump to network TV hasn’t changed that.

With marginal additions in terms of talent for the 2023 series, LIV Golf has a lot of work to do in order to grow interest and, more pressingly, viewership moving forward.
