Dodgers Gavin Lux replacements: Jose Iglesias

The Los Angeles Dodgers haven’t been active in MLB free agency. For ‘not active’, I mean signing moderately-priced free agents and acting responsibly, for a chance.

LA is saving their luxury tax room for next offseason, when they will likely make a run at two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. But with Lux injured, they might as well reach into their war chest and make a move. Don’t worry, it won’t be an expensive one.

Jose Iglesias is arguably the best shortstop left on the free-agent market. Iglesias slashed .292/.328/.380 last year in Colorado, and he still has decent range at the position. Frankly, as a former All-Star and Gold Glove candidate, it’s tough to believe he’s still on the free-agent market.

The Dodgers’ plan prior to the season was to play Max Muncy at third base, Lux at shortstop and  Miguel Vargas at second base. One of those options might be off the table, so why not add Iglesias into the mix on the cheap?
