Dodgers spring training: Gavin Lux talks about his injury

Gavin Lux hasn’t watched the video of what happened as he was running to third base that caused his ACL injury. He also says he likely won’t. He doesn’t need the reminder of a season that has suddenly gone sideways for him as he tried to get out of the way of a Padres throw from third base to second to start a double play.

“Freak thing,” Lux told reporters. “In hindsight, probably should have just took the throw to the nose and worn it. But yeah, s— happens.”

Lux said that he believed not only was his ACL torn, but also other ligament damage occurred as well. The extent of the injury means that his 2023 season is done and he will need to work to be ready for spring training in 2024. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts estimated an eight-month timeline for Lux, meaning a return to Camelback Ranch next spring in full health is certainly a possibility.

While Monday was a time for the shock of the injury to set in for both Lux and the Dodgers, Tuesday was a time for emotions to be shared.

Tuesday was hard, but it was also another step toward Lux returning to the Los Angeles lineup in 2024.
