2. Isaiah McKenzie

Some Bills fans might cringe to see a wide receiver on this list given the team’s need to surround Allen with more weapons moving forward. The reality is that McKenzie was a below-average starter in the slot for Buffalo last year.

There’s a reason why the team opted to bring Cole Beasley back from practical retirement for the home stretch. McKenzie just wasn’t giving the offense enough juice from the inside. He caught 42 catches on the year but that only produced 423 yards. Buffalo should be able to find a more dangerous weapon from the slot via either free agency or the draft.

Parting with McKenzie will only save Buffalo just a shade under $3 million but it’s still a move worth making. The presence of Stefon Diggs on the outside commands so much attention from opposing secondaries that getting open in the slot should be relatively easy. The Bills need to find a more dangerous weapon to deploy there on a weekly basis.

McKenzie will find work because he’s a steady locker room presence with good character, but he’s not good enough to be a starter for a team with legitimate championship aspirations. Upgrading the slot receiver position should be a big priority for Buffalo this offseason and offloading McKenzie will help give them the buying power required to make it happen.
