NFL Rumors: Saints feeling good after Combine meeting with Derek Carr
Along with virtually every NFL reporter along with representatives from every NFL team, free agent quarterback Derek Carr is also in Indianapolis. As has long been reported, he’ll be deliberate in making his decision on where to sign and that includes meeting with a multitude of teams while he’s in Indy.
However, the only team he met with to try and work out a trade prior to his release, the New Orleans Saints, remain a hot contender to sign him. And on Tuesday, the Saints met with Carr at a hotel in Indianapolis to obviously talk about the prospect of him joining the team. But what’s interesting is the feelings from that meeting.
Luke Johnson of the New Orleans Advocate noted that the impression from talking to people about that meeting was that New Orleans “liked where they’re at” in terms of the Carr sweepstakes.
Now, there is a lot of hot air that gets thrown around after meetings. Heck, new Carolina Panthers coach Frank Reich might as well try and adopt Carr from the way he talked about him in Indianapolis. Having said that, the Saints are a smart organization, and their persistent pursuit of Carr combined with this latest report should raise some alarms that they feel confident they have a real shot to sign the quarterback.
