CeeDee Lamb is a quality wide receiver but the depth behind him in Dallas’ receiving room left a lot to be desired in 2022. The Cowboys’ front office needs to do more to help Dak Prescott if they expect to field a top-10 offense moving forward.

The list of wide receivers available in free agency this year isn’t great. Smith-Schuster is one of the best of the bunch. He’s coming off a quality season within the comfortable confines of Andy Reid’s offensive system in Kansas City.

The former Steelers star caught 78 passes for 933 yards and three touchdowns last year with the Chiefs. Dallas might struggle to get equal production since their offense isn’t quite as creative as Kansas City’s. Even so, signing the power slot receiver to a multi-year deal could prove to be a prudent investment by Dallas.

The key here for the Cowboys is to avoid overpaying Smith-Schuster just because he’s a relatively big name. If another team believes he can be a No. 1 option then the Cowboys should look for more cost-efficient options. If his market remains cool for the first couple weeks of free agency then Dallas has an opportunity to sign him on a bargain contract.
