NFL mock draft: Calijah Kancey fit No. 1 – Seattle Seahawks

One of the richest teams in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks have the No. 5 and 20 overall picks in the first round thanks to the Russell Wilson trade — which is hilariously the higher of the two selections. And after Geno Smith led them to a shocking playoff appearance last season, the order of business this offseason will be addressing a leaky defense, which many expect them to do with both first-rounders.

However, the Seahawks could get even richer if Kancey is on the board and they have an opportunity to trade down from No. 20 with no risk of him being taken ahead of them. And it would be interesting to see the Pitt product on this defense that, quite simply, is lacking playmakers.

We know that’s what Kancey is, though. His pass-rushing polish coming out as a redshirt junior combined with the elite athleticism he displayed at his size at the NFL Combine tells you everything you need to know. He’s a force that can wreck games up the interior if you just let him pin his ears back and attack.

Seattle is saying goodbye to L.J. Collier (which they aren’t sad about) this offseason and could lose Poona Ford as well. They have a need for a player who can make a big difference on that side of the ball and, with their second selection of the first round, Kancey would be a tremendous fit.
