NFL free agency is approaching, so let’s figure out what the upcoming NFL salary cap will be.

The new league year starts in earnest in a few weeks, as NFL free agency will be out in full force.

Although teams that actively participate in it typically end up paying a premium for a discounted product, there is usually one team who completely flips its roster over and goes from bad to great in one year. Look no further than the 2022 Jacksonville Jaguars and the 2021 Cincinnati Bengals. Of course, terms will be dictated by the overall amount of salary cap space each team has to use.

Let’s take a look at what the NFL salary cap will be for nest season, shall we? Did it go up or drop?

What is the NFL salary cap for the upcoming 2023 season?

The league has set the salary cap at $224.8 million for the 2023 season. This is a $16.6 million bump up from what it was in 2022. After seeing a reduction in cap space during COVID, the league is back in a fantastic spot financially. We are about to enter a day and age where marginal quarterbacks can get $40 million annually if they are deemed to be of the franchise player variety.

Although we are not quite there when it comes to fully-guaranteed salaries — not that we will ever get there completely because football is at its core a collision sport with a 100-percent injury rate — there has never been a better time to be a professional football player in the greatest league the sport has to offer. Give Roger Goodell a ton of credit for expanding the league’s revenue streams.

Legal tampering commences at 12:00 p.m. ET on March 13, but all 32 franchises must get under the cap by March 15 at 4:00 p.m. ET. This is the first wave of free agency. While this is all good and fun, keep in mind that teams get to buy their own groceries in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. It will be held in Kansas City from Thursday, April 27 to Saturday, April 29. It should be a great time.

Every team gets the same resources, but it is up to them to allocate those resources accordingly.
