NFL rumors: 4 Derrick Henry trade partners the Titans could deal with
1. Panthers trading for Derrick Henry would be a building block for new QB
So much of the focus heading into the 2023 offseason for the Carolina Panthers has been on the quarterback position — as it should be. They’ve been mentioned recently in the Aaron Rodgers conversation, are a likely candidate to trade up in the draft for a quarterback, and were also in on Derek Carr until he signed with the Saints on Monday.
That’s the position that owner David Tepper has been desperately trying to figure out for a few years now with swings on the likes of Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield, in addition to missing on Deshaun Watson and others. Yet, let’s not overlook the need at running back after the franchise traded McCaffrey this past season.
It was clear throughout the year once CMC left that the team is lukewarm at best on Chuba Hubbard being the unquestioned RB1. Meanwhile, D’Onta Foreman is an unrestricted free agent this offseason and, while cheap to bring back, he’s not the biggest needle-mover that they could have in the building. Derrick Henry might be.
Bubbling under the surface this offseason is the feeling that this could be an ultra-aggressive offseason for the Panthers and not just at quarterback. Should that be the case, trading for Henry to try and help aid and protect the new signal-caller in Carolina is not the worst idea, especially with it being an expiring contract that could be relatively cheap to acquire.
