Tight end Dalton Schultz is scheduled to become a free agent (more on that later). If the Cowboys do not re-sign Schultz, the next tight ends on their depth chart are 2022 fourth-round pick Jake Ferguson and former undrafted free agent Peyton Hendershot. Both players have potential, but adding a veteran to the group would be wise.

Hurst was impressive for the Bengals last season. He had 52 receptions for 414 yards and two touchdowns on 68 targets. His 52 receptions were the 14th-most among tight ends.

Hurst has been a reliable receiver since entering the league in 2018. On 249 career targets, he has recorded only six drops. Last season, he was one of only four tight ends with 50+ receptions and a catch percentage of at least 75.0 percent (Hurst, Dallas Goedert, Noah Fant, Robert Tonyan).

Spotrac estimates Hurst’s market value to be $6.8 million per season, so signing him will likely not break the bank.

Losing Schultz would hurt, but Hurst could help fill the void without taking up too much cap space.
