Are the Tampa Bay Rays talking contract extension again?

The Tampa Bay Rays may be one of the shrewdest franchises, not just in baseball, but in all of sports. It always feels as though the Rays make just the right move at just the right time and win nearly every trade they ever make.

After locking up their shortstop Wander Franco to an 11-year contract in 2022, are the Rays poised to lock up another one of their young stars before he even sets foot on a major league field?

Curtis Mead, the Rays top infield prospect and No. 33 in all of baseball according to MLB Pipeline, has been rumored to be in contract negotiations with Tampa Bay about a possible extension.

Our FanSided insider Robert Murray stated that he doesn’t have any direct information in regards to a possible extension, but others within the industry are suggesting that a deal could be close.

Speaking of contract extensions, the Houston Astros have been very aggressive on that front. The team has talked to both Kyle Tucker and Framber Valdez about possible extensions, but it sounds like both are nowhere close to happening.

One name to watch, however, is Corbin Carrol with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Carroll is the No. 2 rated prospect in all of baseball, and while an extension may be unlikely at the moment, the D-backs appear to be at least kicking the tires.
