1. Bring JuJu Smith-Schuster back into the fold

It’s natural for the Steelers to continue to add weapons for Pickett this offseason. Smith-Schuster was a popular player in Pittsburgh and hits free agency as one of the best options available in a weak wide receiver class.

That does not mean the Steelers should bring him back to town for romantic reasons. While he would give their group a modest upgrade in 2023, he won’t be worth the cap space required to sign him this offseason for Pittsburgh.

Instead of looking for a wide receiver upgrade in free agency, the Steelers should look to add a new slot receiver via the draft. It’s relatively easy to find a quality slot weapon in the middle rounds. Pittsburgh has an exemplary scouting record when it comes to wide receiver and they should flex that muscle this offseason.

Bringing Smith-Schuster back into the mix might also stifle the development of George Pickens on the outside. He needs to be given an increased workload to see if he can develop into a legitimate superstar. Taking targets away from the former Georgia standout to feed Smith-Schuster would be a poor long-term decision for Pittsburgh.
