2. Giancarlo Stanton

When Stanton is healthy and playing his best baseball he’s still one of the most intimidating sluggers in all of baseball. The problem is that Stanton’s injury issues continue to be more and more of an issue for him as his age increases.

His mammoth contract will make trading him a challenging proposition for Cashman. However, the emergence of Dominguez as a player in need of at-bats could change the Yankees’ position on attaching an asset to Stanton’s contract to facilitate a trade.

That might seem unlikely at the moment, but if Stanton misses a big chunk of the 2023 season for the Yankees it could lead to an early call-up for Dominguez. If he produces in any sort of cameo it’s going to cause New York’s passionate fan base to turn against Stanton in a major way.

The irony is that the Yankees’ front office would be overjoyed if Dominguez turns into the next Stanton. In some ways, that’s the best-case outcome for the highly-touted prospect. If Dominguez makes Stanton more expendable in the Bronx it could lead to a high-profile changing of the guard on the roster.
