NFL rumors: Bears land Tremaine Edmunds at linebacker

Rather than making an unnecessary move at quarterback, the Bears are doing the right thing and building around Justin Fields.

Chicago traded Roquan Smith to the Ravens where he immediately became a centerpiece of Baltimore’s defense. They signed him to a contract extension this offseason. We can question that decision by Ryan Poles all offseason, but he opted not to give us the chance by investing in Tremaine Edmunds.

Edmunds was a force on the Buffalo Bills defense. He has experience playing for a winning franchise, and is an All-Pro talent at his best. Edmunds will be just 25 years old last season and would’ve been an ideal fit in any defense. With Alan Williams, the possibilities are endless.

Edmunds has two Pro Bowls to his name already and should only improve in a defense built around his strengths. ESPN spoke to Edmunds career arch in a recent article related to his signing:

"“The two-time Pro Bowl selection has had 100-plus tackles every season he has played. Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier has spoken about wanting to see Edmunds make more splash plays. Edmunds has 5 career interceptions, 35 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles and 6.5 sacks.”"

The Monsters of the Midway, and the ’86 Bears defense, are long gone. But this should be a respectable bunch in 2023.
