2. Mike Ditka

Obviously, we don’t think much of Mike Ditka as a player these days. He was most famous as the head coach of the Chicago Bears when they won the 1985 Super Bowl. Others know him as a pregame host. Very few people know him as a player despite his Hall of Fame career.

Ditka was a superstar tight end that became the number-one pick in 1961 because of his ability to transform the position. He made five Pro Bowls in his career and was a dominant player for the Chicago Bears. There was no tight end like him at the time. His ability to play with his athleticism at his size remind us of Rob Gronkowski at a time where nobody was looking for that.

Ditka’s production fell off a map over the second half of his career. He was eventually traded to his native Pennsylvania to play for the Eagles in 1967. He faced the first injury of his career in Philly. He never missed a game in Chicago, but he missed eight in his two seasons with the Eagles. It led to just 30 receptions in two seasons.

He was traded to the Dallas Cowboys after 1968, and he turned his career around again. He played for the next four seasons before retiring in 1972. He will always be known as a Chicago Bear, but he had a decent run with the Cowboys. His run with the Eagles is completely forgettable, and it should be compared to the rest of his career.
