St. Louis Cardinals prospect Jordan Walker is back in the lineup after suffering an unfortunate injury last week in spring training.

Jordan Walker’s injury was never supposed to keep him out long, but he had Cardinals fans worried, and for good reason.

Walker is the No. 1 prospect in St. Louis’ system, and is challenging for an MLB roster spot out of spring training. The most likely scenario is that Walker begins the season in Triple-A, and assuming he rakes there, should be up in the majors in no time.

The 20-year-old has a lot of charm, and it’s rubbed off on teammates and opponents alike. Walker doesn’t mind the competition in spring, and thinks he’ll be better for it despite a brief injury.

“It’s all fun, to be honest,” Walker said. “I feel like competing is having a good time. I’m competing to show what I can do here, and if I look at it as fun, I can stay relaxed. That’s what I’m trying to do.”

Jordan Walker injury: Cardinals prospect is fine now

After suffering a shoulder injury just last week, Jordan Walker is back in the Cards lineup for Tuesday’s spring training game. With some of the regulars playing in the World Baseball Classic, this week is a good time to show St. Louis manager Oli Marmol what he can bring against MLB pitching on a more consistent basis.

In several at-bats against Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, Walker impressed the All-Star hurler.

“I thought he put a good swing on it,” Cole said of a Walker single. “It was a good adjustment from the first at-bat. It was a good pitch, a borderline ball, and one of the better swings of the day, for sure.”

To Walker, that comment from Cole meant everything. Not only is he close to becoming a big-league player, he’s essentially already there from a skills standpoint.
