March Madness rankings: No. 60-51

60. UCSB (27-7): The Gauchos, one of the best nicknames in the tournament by the way, draw the Baylor Bears in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. While UCSB drew a No. 14 seed, the Gauchos lost four of six in February. But, they recovered and are riding a seven-game winning streak.

59. Colgate (26-8): I’m resisting every urge to make a dental reference, but if Colgate wants to be crowned king in March, the Raiders are going to have to drill some three-point shots. Colgate shoots over 40 percent from downtown, but their poor free-throw shooting is sure to gum up the works. Sorry, I’m done.

58. Montana State (25-9): The Bobcats finished second in the Big Sky, but did knock off Weber State en route to the tournament championship. Montana State is not a great three-point shooting team, but they could put a scare into Kansas State in Round 1.

57. Kennesaw State (26-8): The Owls are on a roll having won 16 of their last 18 games but have a tough matchup against the Xavier Musketeers. Kennesaw State squeaked by Liberty in the finals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.

56. Louisiana (26-7): The Ragin’ Cajuns are back in the NCAA Tournament. Louisiana finished second in the Sun Belt this season and had a pretty easy run through the conference tournament facing 7-seed Georgia Southern, 11-seed Texas State, and 8-seed South Alabama.

55. Grand Canyon (24-11): The Lopes are headed to the Big Dance and Bryce Drew will get a chance to play Cinderella once again. GCU won the WAC Tournament title after finishing fourth in the conference this season.

54. Vermont (23-10): The Catamounts feel extremely under-seeded in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Marquette is going to have their hands full versus a No. 15 seed that has won 15 straight games.

53. Arizona State (22-12): The Sun Devils’ last-second victory over their in-state rival Arizona seems to be what propelled ASU into the tournament. While that was an impressive victory, the Wildcats boat-raced Arizona State in the Pac-12 Conference Tournament.

52. Kent State (28-6): The Golden Flashes finished second in the MAC, but won the conference tourney over Toledo and looked good doing it. Point guard Sincere Carry will lead Kent State against Mike Woodson’s Indiana Hoosiers in the first round.

51. Iona (27-7): Rick Pitino may be on his way back to the Big East, but the Hall of Fame coach still  has a team to lead in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Pitino is never one to look ahead, so he’ll have the Gaels ready to go against Connecticut.
