March Madness 2023 rankings: Ranking every team 1-68
By Drew Koch
March Madness rankings: No. 20-11
20. Tennessee (23-10): The Volunteers are in trouble without starting point guard Zakai Ziegler, but Rick Barnes’ group is one of the best defensive teams in the tournament. They’ll have to turn it up in order to advance without Ziegler.
19. San Diego State (27-6): Speaking of defense, the Aztecs are one of the best in college basketball. Fresh off a first-place finish in the Mountain West and with the conference tournament championship under their belt, San Diego State is primed for a deep run in March.
18. Indiana (22-11): Mike Woodson has done a tremendous job resurrecting the Indiana program. The Hoosiers have two wins over Purdue and Trayce Jackson-Davis is one of the best players in the tournament.
17. Miami (25-7): The Hurricanes are a fun team to watch. They have wins over Duke and Virginia and are led by head coach Jim Larrañaga who took George Mason to the Final Four in 2006.
16. Texas A&M (26-8): The fact that Texas A&M was is a 7-seed probably the biggest oversight by the committee this year. After being left out in the cold last year, Buzz Williams will have his team ready for the tournament. Don’t sleep on the Aggies.
15. Kansas State (23-9): The Wildcats were upset in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament by the TCU Horned Frogs. But after a third-place finish in the conference, KSU will be looking to Keyontae Johnson and Markquis Nowell to lead the Wildcats deep into the tourney.
14. Duke (26-8): If there’s one team that no one wants to play right now it’s Duke. In Jon Scheyer’s first season, he’s led the Blue Devils to an impressive run to an ACC Tournament Title and a 5-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
13. Xavier (25-9): Sean Miller has the Musketeers seeded third in the Midwest Region. Xavier has a potent, high-scoring offense that they’ll rely upon in advance. The Musketeers finished second in a tough conference and will look to get past the first weekend for the first time since 2017.
12. Virginia (25-7): If Virginia can play their brand of basketball, the Cavaliers can hang with any team in the tournament. Head coach Tony Bennett relies on a slow, methodical pace that can oftentimes wreak havoc on opponents.
11. Baylor (22-10): The Bears are a bit of a mystery. But having won it all back in 2021, it’s hard to rank Scott Drew’s team much lower than this. Baylor takes a lot of threes and makes a lot of threes. If they’re hitting from the outside, the Bears will be hard to stop.
