NFL Draft: 5 players Cowboys should draft in first round
2. Deonte Banks
Banks is a talented cornerback who is flying up draft boards after a stellar combine performance. There’s now a better-than-average chance that he won’t be on the board when the Cowboys go on the clock in the first round.
His exemplary athletic traits make him a prospect that Dallas might consider moving up a few spots to land. Banks possesses an excellent combination of size and speed to function on the outside. Deploying him opposite Trevon Diggs would give the Cowboys one of the most talented corner combinations in the NFL.
The downside to Banks as a prospect is that he tends to panic when the ball is in the air. That led to some penalties at Maryland that will need to be coached out of him at the next level. It’s something that can definitely be improved but it might take a little time for him to adjust to life on the outside in the NFL.
The Cowboys shouldn’t overpay to move up to grab Banks, but if he slips to No. 26 they should strongly consider halting his fall. He’s got All-Pro upside at a position of need for Dallas.
