March Madness Second Round upset picks

Duke over Tennessee

It may be a bit of a stretch to call this an upset since Duke is worse than Tennessee in seed only. The two teams looked light years apart in their respective games on Thursday, which could set the stage for a bloodbath in Orlando.

Duke absolutely demolished one of the most dangerous No. 12 seeds in the field on Thursday, pummeling Oral Roberts by 23 to earn their ticket into this game. Jon Scheyer’s team is one of the hottest in the country, having ripped off 10 consecutive wins.

Tennessee, on the other hand, continued to feel the lingering effects of losing starting point guard Zakai Ziegler for the season as they struggled to get by Louisiana on Thursday night. The Ragin Cajuns nearly erased an 11-point halftime deficit, ultimately falling by 3 as the Volunteers looked far from convincing.

These two teams are trending in opposite directions and Duke has been established as an early favorite. The spread is reasonably close thanks to Tennessee’s defensive acumen but the Blue Devils should win this game convincingly.
