NFL Rumors: Colts nab WR Isaiah McKenzie to potentially pair with Lamar Jackson/Anthony Richardson

A week after Parris Campbell signed elsewhere, the Indianapolis Colts picked up their strongest wideout reinforcement yet: former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie.

The 27-year-old spent the last four years in Buffalo and recently graduated from special teams to become a more prominent fixture in the Bills’ passing attack; with his contract expiring this offseason, Buffalo decided to let him go as a cap casualty.

On Tuesday, McKenzie reportedly agreed to a deal with the Colts, the details of which have not yet been announced.

The return specialist and slot man adds a different dimension to a big-bodied Colts pass-catching corps that consists of Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce. At just 5-foot-8, McKenzie relies more on his YAC ability and his quick, explosive routes, and he should get a chance to build on last season’s career-best yardage totals with….well, whoever ends up playing under center for Indy.

That could be Lamar Jackson. Or top prospect Anthony Richardson. Or any other number of moderately available quarterbacks.

A duo of Jackson and McKenzie piques our interest the most since McKenzie could assume a similar role to that of the Ravens’ versatile weapon Devin Duvernay.

Even if the Colts don’t land Jackson, the team has at least distanced itself from the ill-fated Wentz era, and its young receiving corps will be ready to play with the whole gamut of possible starting quarterbacks in 2023.
