NWSL Season Preview 2023: 1 major question for each team
By Oliver Hunt
For the Kansas City Current: Can anything stop them from making the playoffs?
If you’re a Kansas City fan, you’re likely over the moon for the upcoming 2023 season. And for good reason. The Current have been the poster child for a successful offseason, somehow making all the right moves all the time.
They’ve acquired talent from everywhere, including winning the Debinha lottery. Already a powerhouse at the end of last season, they’ve only grown as a squad, picking up two Red Stars in Morgan Gautrat and Vanessa DiBernardo. They signed Swedish forward Mimmi Larson but traded Lynn Williams to Gotham on draft day. After all of that, they still managed to have excellent draft picks, picking up the second overall pick in Duke superstar Michelle Cooper and the tenth overall pick Alexa Spaanstra from UVA.
It’s clear there’s something in the water at KC and everyone wants to be a part of it. They’re coming for that trophy and they’re not shy about it.
