For the San Diego Wave: Can they prove that they’re more than a one-hit wonder?

The San Diego Wave made history last season by being the first expansion team to make it to a playoff game. They won their playoff game against the Chicago Red Stars with an overtime game-winner from 2022 golden boot winner Alex Morgan. But they were stopped short by the Portland Thorns in the semifinals. The Wave should still be very proud of their inaugural season.

There are some who attribute their success to one Alex Morgan, but those fans would be ignoring the likes of Defender and Rookie of the year Naomi Girma, Coach of the Year Casey Stoney, and Goalkeeper of the year Kailen Sheridan. They’ve made some off-season moves as well, including picking up former red Stars Rachel Hill and Danielle Colaprico. And after the success of Naomi Girma, it’s no surprise that they drafted another Stanford Cardinal at the top of the third round in Sierra Enge. The Wave appear to be just getting started and are gearing up for another historic season at Snapdragon Stadium.
