MLB Rumors: Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia speaks out

While some were surprised by the Atlanta Braves decision at shortstop, Orlando Arcia and Brian Snitker were not. Arcia has provided a stable veteran presence for weeks now, while Vaughn Grissom struggled with consistency in the field.

The Braves lineup is stacked enough. Yes, Grissom would be an upgrade at the plate, but more than anything Atlanta needs a shortstop they can trust defensively. Grissom may eventually become that, but he’s not there yet. Ron Washington acknowledged as much while giving a hopeful outlook at Grissom’s future.

For Arcia, Opening Day offers another opportunity to prove himself. And for that, he’s grateful:

“I’m happy, very happy,” Arcia said through interpreter Franco García, per the AJC. “I feel very grateful for this opportunity. With that said, I just want to give my absolute best effort to help the team win every game possible and win championships. That’s what we’re here for.”

With Arcia, Grissom, or both throughout the season, Atlanta is one of the favorites to win the National League for a reason.
