MLB Rumors: How much will Braves pay Max Fried?
The Atlanta Braves named Max Fried their Opening Day starter on Friday. While that wasn’t much of a surprise to those who follow the team, it is alarming that Fried still doesn’t have a new deal.
Fried is likely next man up for a major contract extension, assuming Alex Anthopoulos wants to keep him around. The Braves have let Freddie Freeman and Dansby Swanson leave in back-to-back offseasons. Will Fried be next?
The Athletic projects Fried will receive a four-year deal at around $28 million per season. That’s respectable, especially since Fried is on the right side of 30. This is his chance to land a large deal. Fried doesn’t offer the same pitch velocity as, say, a Max Scherzer, but he’s just as effective. Atlanta would be dumb to waste that.
What else can fans expect prior to Opening Day? The Braves surprisingly sent down shortstop Vaughn Grissom. While they’re expected to stick with Orlando Arcia, FanSided’s Kevin Henry thinks a trade for Rockies shortstop Alan Trejo makes a lot of sense for both sides.
