Exploring Phillies options to replace Rhys Hoskins, including two trades
Milwaukee Brewers have two Rhys Hoskins replacements: Luke Voit, Keston Hiura
The Brewers are in an interesting position with their infield, specifically first base. Rowdy Tellez is entrenched as the Opening Day and primary starter at the position, with Luke Voit and Keston Hiura being among backups at the position.
Voit, 32, previously signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers and is vying for a spot on the Opening Day roster. The team is still figuring out what to do and both sides agreed to push a previous opt-out date in his contract to March 25. Voit provides an intriguing skillset — he has 95 career home runs in six major-league seasons — and is slashing .254/.342/.476 in 1838 career plate appearances.
Hiura, meanwhile, is a different story. Once a top prospect and regarded as one of the best young hitters in baseball, his career has taken a drastic turn. He’s hitting a mere .238/.318/.453 in four major-league seasons and has once again struggled this spring. He is out of minor-league options and is a prime change-of-scenery candidate.
Perhaps that could be in Philadelphia. Either Voit and Hiura figure to come cheap via trade and a move would help the Brewers solve their infield logjam. It’s unclear if talks have taken place, but on paper, a trade would certainly make sense for both sides.
