Caleb Love could help get the Indiana Hoosiers all the way over the hump

Though the end result in March Madness was not the desired one in Bloomington, Mike Woodson clearly has the Indiana Hoosiers at least somewhat close to a trajectory of recapturing the program’s former glory. But now comes the difficult part of turning over the roster and maintaining that moving forward.

Barring some drastic changes, the Hoosiers are set to lose their two biggest playmakers and contributors from this past season with Trayce Jackson-Davis and Race Thompson leaving. That puts Indiana in need of some help and, perhaps, a new focal point of the offense. This could be especially pressing if Jalen Hood-Schifino opts to enter the NBA Draft after one season in the program.

Even if Woodson convinces Hood-Schifino to stay, though, there is still plenty of room for Love to fit into the mix for the 2022-23 season. Love is best served in a non-traditional point guard role in which he can isolate and create his shot, at least until he proves otherwise as a playmaker for his teammates. Shifting the focus of Indiana to the backcourt with Love would make a ton of sense.

Now, the Hoosiers do have a pair of 4-star guards in their incoming recruiting class, but fostering that young talent while allowing Love to take over as a veteran and experienced leader would be wise for Woodson as he continues to build the program. Indiana previously recruited Love and it would behoove them to rekindle that relations in the transfer portal.
