2. Lamar Jackson could stop the Colts’ QB carousel

It has been well-documented what a revolving door the quarterback position has been for the Indianapolis Colts since Andrew Luck’s sudden retirement. The franchise has churned through Jacoby Brissett, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, Sam Ehlinger and Nick Foles under center without anyone emerging as more than a one-year solution.

The belief around the league is that the Colts are planning to draft a young QB with the fourth pick in the draft, allowing them to develop a young passer to grow with. The risk in this strategy, however, is that both Carolina and Houston will take quarterbacks ahead of Indianapolis, leaving them with at best the third pick of passers in a questionable rookie crop.

That problem can be avoided by dealing for Jackson, who would join a talented roster that can contend for a division title in the weak AFC South. New head coach Shane Steichen also has experience with a system for a mobile quarterback after his work with Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia, which could make a transition seamless for Jackson.

Getting a player like Jackson would add legitimacy to the Colts’ lineup and avoid the risk of a younger prospect flaming out. The price will be steep but it is one that Jim Irsay should be willing to pay to have an answer at quarterback for potentially the next decade.
