2. Matt Krook

No bullpen can ever have enough left-handed arms which is part of the reason why many people believed Krook would break camp with the Yankees’ major league club. As it stands, he’ll head to AAA until the team feels compelled to bring him back to the Bronx.

Krook doesn’t have overwhelming stuff, but his fastball tops out in the low-90s. The development of his off-speed repertoire will likely determine how effective he can be as a major leaguer. He’s flashed a plus cutter and curve at times during his professional career but needs to improve his consistency with both offerings.

All Krook likely needs to head to the majors is one injury to the team’s bullpen. If Wandy Peralta goes down then Krook will be an automatic choice as the next southpaw up. An injury to a righty might present GM Brian Cashman with a choice but Krook’s name will still appear on the shortlist of potential replacements.

Krook doesn’t have star potential but he can get left-handers out at a high rate which could be huge for the Yankees down the stretch. A solid start to his AAA season should keep him one phone call away from the Bronx.
