2. Mark Brunell

From taking a player way too late to giving up on a player way too early, the Green Bay Packers were the original team for Mark Brunell. He spent two seasons in Green Bay before he was signed as a restricted free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles. They just signed Ray Rhodes to be their head coach, and he had experience as a defensive coordinator with the Packers.

However, Brunell didn’t want to be the backup to Randall Cunningham. The trade for the RFA fell through, and he joined the Jacksonville Jaguars.

To be fair to the Packers, they had a relatively young Brett Favre on the roster. Ironically, both quarterbacks played until they were 41 years old. Favre played 16 years in Green Bay. Brunell played two.

Brunell played in just two games for the Packers. He was a backup to a player in the same age bracket. It was clear Brunell had talent, and he needed a starting gig. He went on to throw for more than 32,000 yards and 184 touchdowns. None of that would be possible if he stayed in Green Bay for much longer.
