Hunter Dickinson enters transfer portal: 3 best destinations for Michigan star
Hunter Dickinson is a star transfer, so expect Rick Pitino to make a call for St. John’s
I can’t escape the feeling — probably because it feels inevitable — that Rick Pitino is going to make a monster splash in the transfer portal. Having said that, it feels like St. John’s would be most interested in a player like Dickinson than it would be someone like Caleb Love given what the Michigan big brings to the table.
While there is immense upside with a player like Love or other guards, so many of the top players in the portal will be valuable based on potential and putting things together with a change of scenery. In the case of Dickinson, he’s about as sure of a thing as you’ll find.
Dickinson is a true 7-footer and change to go with a polished interior game, solid toughness and good rebounding. He’s going to consistently get you something 16 points and eight boards every night for wherever he lands.
That’s especially prudent when you look at Pitino with the Red Storm. St. John’s got a break with Joel Soriano, their leading scorer and biggest presence on the interior, returning. However, pairing him with Dickinson would give the Red Storm a dynamic duo of big men to dominate frontcourts in the Big East with.
Now, it’s worth noting that St. John’s isn’t the same historic academic institution that Michigan, Notre Dame, or Duke is — but if Pitino can work his magic, this would be a splash he’d love to make.
