The Masters picks: Outright winners for Augusta in 2023

Rory McIlroy to win The Masters, 0.5 units (+750)

To quote the ineffable golf mind of Michael Scott, “No question about it, I am ready to get hurt again.”

Rory McIlroy returns to Augusta still in search of the career grand slam and needing only a Green Jacket to complete it. Over the last 20 rounds, he’s third in the field from tee-to-green and has seemingly gotten out of a funk with the putter. Throw in his Sunday 64 and outright second place finish last year, and I think this is the year that McIlroy finally makes his way into Butler Cabin on Sunday evening.

Max Homa to win The Masters, 0.3 units (+3200)

People have said virtually all year long with the emergence of Max Homa that the only thing next for the rising star to do is win or contend at a major. And with where his game has been, I think The Masters could be the perfect spot for him to start making that happen.

Frankly, the only thing working against Homa is course history as he just made his first cut last year. But Homa hasn’t finished worse than T14 in his last four starts, is striking the hell out of it with his irons, and has become an assassin around the greens. It might be a longshot because he’s not contended here before, but I think that’s baked into the odds and I love this price.

Shane Lowry to win The Masters, 0.2 units (+6500)

You’re probably thinking this feels out of left field — and it might be just that. But don’t forget that Shane Lowry isn’t only a major champion in the past few years but the Irishman also finished T3 at The Masters last year and is now playing some terrific golf. He quietly is averaging more than 1.1 weighted strokes gained ball-striking over the last 20 rounds and, though his short game numbers haven’t been there, he’s a stud in that regard overall. I think he’s a sleeper with good course history that we’re getting great odds with.

Longshot to Win The Masters: Bubba Watson, 0.1 units (+22000)

Look, I’m well aware that he’s not been in form consistently for years and definitely not so on LIV Golf. I’m also aware that he’s also getting older. But Bubba at Augusta has always been lethal. He has only one missed cut here along with two wins and a Top 5 in 2018 too. It’s a longshot for a reason, but this number is way too long for there to be no sprinkle at all.
