Max Abmas enters transfer portal: 5 best destinations for Oral Roberts star
Baylor losing LJ Cryer could make way for Max Abmas transfer
Just about the same time that Max Abmas entered his name into the transfer portal, so too did Baylor guard LJ Cryer. Though Abmas has shown a bit more as an overall playmaker, one thing that Cryer undoubtedly gave the Bears and Scott Drew’s program was scoring, particular from beyond-the-arc.
Abmas has been a consistently good 3-point shooter in his career with the ability to offer more than that as a scorer and, perhaps with better talent around him, as a playmaker for teammates as well.
Going to Waco would be going extremely close to home for Abmas, so it has to be a consideration. And with Cryer now in the portal in his own right, it’d be shocking not to see Drew try to fill that void with Abmas given the need and the in-state connection.
UNC can rebuild the roster by getting Max Abmas out of the portal
As mentioned earlier, Caleb Love is one of the biggest names in the transfer portal after a high-profile career at UNC. He joins several other Tar Heels transfers but, at the same time, Hubert Davis has veterans Armando Bacot and RJ Davis coming back for another year. Though North Carolina did land Brown transfer Paxson Wojcik to fill a guard role already, the chance to land someone like Abmas is hard to not consider.
Abmas, though he doesn’t offer the size and length of Love, would potentially be an upgrade on the perimeter. He’s a far more efficient and reliable overall scoring guard that can play off Davis running a facilitator role and who showed earlier in his career he can operate well with a big man like Bacot.
This could be a perfect fit and, with the allure and resources of UNC, they’re a prime candidate to sniff around the ORU transfer, especially given the roster turnover this offseason.
