St. Louis Cardinals prospect Jordan Walker hit his first career home run, and it’s who he hit it against that made it that much more special.
Gone are the days when all teams sent down their top prospects after a strong spring due to service time manipulation. The St. Louis Cardinals were impressed with No. 1 prospect and outfielder Jordan Walker, and announced that he would be in their Opening Day roster. He already recorded his first career hit in his very first at-bat. All that he was missing was a home run.
Well, he got it on Wednesday.
Trailing 5-0 to the Atlanta Braves in the bottom of the seventh inning, Walker sent a pitch thrown by Michael Tonkin into the left field stands of Busch Stadium to cut the Cardinals’ deficit to 5-1.
It’s only fitting that the Stone Mountain, Ga. native hit his first big league homer against the Braves.

That’s quite the moment for Walker, in what should be his first home run of many in his career.
Unfortunately for the Cardinals, they were unable to get close to tying the game up, falling 5-2. With that, the Cardinals were swept in three-games by the Braves, who now improve to a 5-1 record, tied with the Milwaukee Brewers for the best in the National League.
Walker has been making the most of his at-bats through St. Louis’ first six games of the season. The outfielder has recorded a .333 batting average, a .360 on-base percentage, a .542 slugging percentage, one home run, one run scored, five RBI, and eight hits.
With his first home run out of the way, Cardinals fans will be waiting to see how many he hits throughout his rookie career. The Cardinals next play the Brewers for a three-game series starting on Friday.
