Packers players who won’t be on the roster after 2023 NFL Draft: Chris Slayton, DE/DL

Atop the list of draft needs for the Packers is at defensive end. They have to find some talent, here. Currently, the Packers only have three defensive ends signed to their roster: Kenny Clark, Devonte Wyatt and Chris Slayton.

It would be no surprise to see the Packers attack this position early and often during the draft, in addition to signing a plethora of undrafted free agents after the weekend’s festivities are over with. Green Bay has to reinvent this line, and fast. They’re pretty well set with some key linebackers in Rashan Gary, Quay Walker, Preston Smith and De’Vondre Campbell.

But, again, that defensive line is one that needs to be addressed. Packers fans would likely not be opposed to the team going with someone like Iowa defensive end Lukas Van Ness at no. 15 overall, to give them a legitimate presence up front. Later on, the Packers could go that route again somewhere along the lines of the fifth or sixth rounds.

Do not be shocked if Green Bay comes away with two or three defensive linemen in this draft, and if Slayton is let go after the fact. He’s been no more than a mere practice squad candidate for the past season or so.
