MLB Rumors: Philadelphia Phillies should trade OF Justin Crawford

Like the Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies are a team that should be going all in right now. They’re banged up to start the year, but are coming off of an NL Pennant, and once their injured players do return, they’ll be a better team than they were last season thanks to the signing of Trea Turner.

While we expect Bryce Harper and Ranger Suarez to be back sometime soon, the Phillies will not get Rhys Hoskins back this season as their longtime first baseman tore his ACL in Spring Training.

The Phillies have a pretty decent pool of prospects to trade from at this year’s deadline to try and improve their chances of getting back to the Fall Classic. The one I think they should move is Justin Crawford.

Crawford is a 19-year-old outfielder who’s currently in Single-A. He’s their fourth-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline. The Phills took him with their first-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft 17th overall. Crawford projects as a guy who can be a good player, but his MLB ETA is 2026. For a team trying to win now, he’s very moveable.

Trade Crawford either for a first baseman or for whatever else the Phillies need. Any team can use more pitching, and the Phillies are no exception there. Going all in is what the Phillies did last season when they traded Logan O’Hoppe, they can do the same with Crawford.
