MLB Rumors: Washington Nationals should trade RP Kyle Finnegan

The Nationals are the sure seller of the NL East. They’ll finish at the bottom of the division once again and might even be the worst team in baseball. They’re a team trying to build for the future, so any older players on the team now who won’t be a part of the team in a couple of years should be moved.

The Nats should be selling multiple players, but their top guy is Kyle Finnegan. Finnegan is the Nats closer but wouldn’t close just about anywhere else. While that’s the case, he can certainly help a playoff team out as a middle reliever or set-up man.

In the last two seasons, Finnegan has made 134 appearances and has a 3.53 ERA. He’s struck out 9.4 batters per nine and has converted 11 saves in each of those seasons. He’s capable of pitching in just about any role in the bullpen.

He’s been a consistent reliever his entire MLB career which is something most relievers can’t say even while pitching for bad Nationals teams.

Just about any team with World Series aspirations will be looking to upgrade the bullpen, and with the expanded playoffs there won’t be as many sellers, thus making Finnegan that much more valuable.

The Nats should be able to fetch something fairly decent for a 31-year-old who’s under team control through the 2025 season.
