25) MLB Power Rankings: Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies began the season MLB Power Rankings in last place. A couple of early wins have pushed them up a bit. Can they hold onto this spot? It’s hard to believe. This remains a ball club everyone is talking about mostly for future trade deadline purposes. They have a bunch of assets on expiring contracts. A few more eyeballs from around the country could be on them this year if only because fans from other cities will want to see who’ll finish the year on their squads.

24) MLB Power Rankings: Philadelphia Phillies

A tough loss on Sunday and a 3-6 record knocked the Philadelphia Phillies way down the MLB Power Rankings. Their run differential of -22 comes in large part to a bludgeoning by the Texas Rangers in the opening weekend. It will take Philadelphia a while to crawl back to a positive number in that regard. They have shown they can hit. Their biggest issue right now is they are a mess on the mound.

23) MLB Power Rankings: Chicago White Sox

It’s feeling like the Chicago White Sox will waste another season of great potential. Now 4-6, it’s too soon to wave a white flag of surrender. They’re in a winnable division. Early struggles from multiple pitchers could put them in an early hole. What’s most painful is they’re getting some great performances from the young offense. It’ll all go to waste if the pitchers fail to do their job.

22) MLB Power Rankings: St. Louis Cardinals

Handing over a single win to the Milwaukee Brewers is a bad look for the St. Louis Cardinals. They gave their biggest competition in the NL Central a pair of them this weekend. The Tyler O’Neill “hustle” controversy was an early and unneeded distraction for the Cardinals. The team has hit well but they aren’t scoring runs. Despite having multiple players with batting averages over .300, they haven’t scored a whole lot. This could work itself out. The Cardinals are built to be much better.

21) MLB Power Rankings: San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants have the capacity to be pests this year but probably not contend for anything much more serious than being the best .500 team in the National League. They didn’t take advantage of playing the Kansas City Royals this weekend. It only further proves the Giants are an easy team to defeat. They will occasionally sweep a good team. They might also go on a lengthy losing streak.
