Braves replacement for Max Fried: Michael Soroka

The truth of the matter is that there isn’t anyone who’s going to replace Max Fried in a one-for-one manner. He’s the ace of the Braves pitching staff and, in that regard, it’s going to put some pressure on Spencer Strider to step up and be that arm for the team for however long Fried is sidelined with the hamstring injury.

With that said, Atlanta has gotten some solid outings from the likes of Bryce Elder to start the season but it’s been young prospects like Jared Shuster and Dylan Dodd, in addition to veteran Charlie Morton, who have been shaky at times to begin the year.

Because of this, while Fried is out of the rotation, the Braves need someone to come in and be another reliable starter. Even better, Atlanta would love to get a guy that could still fill a spot in the rotation and deepen that group once Fried gets back.

There’s no one better for that than Michael Soroka.

Soroka is no stranger to bad injury luck individually, suffering two separate Achilles tears and dealing with a variety of setbacks in his recovery too. But he’s been throwing for Triple-A Gwinnett and has been quite good in terms of his stuff and, more importantly, not suffering any setbacks.

It remains to be seen when Soroka will be ready to get the call back up to the majors but the former All-Star is much needed and, as we seem to get closer to him being ready, it’s the perfect time for his return while Fried starts to make his way back to Atlanta too.
