2. Zach Jackson could provide Mets needed bullpen depth with Edwin Diaz out

With Edwin Diaz down for the count, veterans David Robertson and Adam Ottavino are being asked to do an awful lot for the Mets out of the bullpen in the early going of the 2023 MLB season. While that pair of vets will be saddled with high-leverage duty throughout the year, it’s the deeper portion of the Mets’ bullpen that needs tending to.

Zach Jackson is currently in the abyss of baseball with the Oakland A’s. Things are looking awfully grim for the club out there. As the wheels fall off their season early, someone like Jackson — who is currently 28 years old — becomes available sooner rather than later.

Jackson is currently sporting a shiny 1.59 ERA to go along with 10 strikeouts in just 5.2 innings of work. After various injuries in recent years, Jackson’s stuff appears to be back in a major way. The A’s is always looking to sell parts — especially when the team is terrible — so I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see Jackson in a Mets uniform later this season.
