QBs who could enter transfer portal after spring practice

3. Ethan Garbers or Chase Griffin, UCLA

UCLA has five quarterbacks in competition for the starting job this year after the graduation of Dorian Thompson-Robinson: Former Washington transfer Ethan Garbers, redshirt senior Chase Griffin, Kent State transfer Collin Schlee, 2022 four-star Justyn Martin and, most intriguingly, five-star early enrollee Dante Moore.

It’s pretty clear that Moore is the future of the program but the 17-year-old realistically needs time to settle in to college life. Spring camp is the chance for the other more veteran options to stake their claim.

To put it simply, five is a crowd and someone is going to have to leave to find playing time, especially guys like Garbers and Griffin who have limited eligibility remaining. Both have playing experience. Both could lead a program if they were given the chance. They just can’t both do that at UCLA.

If Garbers wins the starting job, Griffin shouldn’t spend time waiting around. The opposite outcome applies. And if Schlee or Martin take the reins, the argument to head elsewhere will be even stronger for one or the other.
