MLB Rumors: Cincinnati Reds should trade Wil Myers
The Reds began the season at 5-7, which is a bit better than expected, but that won’t last long. The Reds have one of the worst rosters in baseball, but a lot to look forward to in the not-too-distant future.
Cincinnati brought in Wil Myers as a low-risk high-reward deal this past offseason. Myers signed a one-year deal worth $7.5 million. The deal includes a mutual option for the 2024 season.
Myers and the Reds hope this deal ages much like the Brandon Drury deal did last season. Drury won a Silver Slugger last season thanks in large part to Great American Ballpark, and the Reds will hope Myers has a big year playing in this part half the time as well.
He’s gotten off to a slow start, recording just nine hits in 50 at-bats without a home run in his first nine games, but Myers should have a solid first half. Once that happens, as a guy who can play first base and both corner outfield spots while hitting for power, the Reds should get something for him and deal him to a contender.
They probably won’t get as much as they got for Drury, but they don’t have to in order to make this Myers experiment a success.
