NFL Draft rumors: Everybody should start tanking for Caleb Williams yesterday!
Even though he is not yet draft eligible, everybody in the NFL knows the potentially transcendent talent USC quarterback Caleb Williams possesses. He played a massive part in the Trojans returning to dominance last season. Williams has a chance at being the first player to repeat as the Heisman Trophy winner since Archie Griffin did it in the Ohio State backfield during the 1970s.
The reason Williams’ name is popping up on this fine Saturday is USC is holding its annual spring game. We all know that Williams is turning pro after next season. He could be the league’s next Patrick Mahomes. What makes Williams so special is he has the skill set to potentially overcome the situation and limitations of whatever horrific team team ends up drafting him next spring.
So the reason this is significant is teams who could be taking quarterbacks like the Houston Texans at No. 2 and possibly the Atlanta Falcons at No. 8 may not for Caleb Williams and Drake Maye reasons. Atlanta should be too good to be picking in the top five next year, but Houston might be bad enough. If they pass on Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud, they are going full-blown tank.
As long as Williams stays healthy and does not have a terrible junior year, he is going No. 1 overall.
