25) MLB Power Rankings: Detroit Tigers

How the Detroit Tigers have won this much already is somewhat of a shock. It definitely helped that they got to play the San Francisco Giants over the weekend. They remain a team with very little offense and an overpriced shortstop named Javier Baez who can’t remember how many outs there are. This may be the highest the Tigers get on the MLB Power Rankings this season.

24) MLB Power Rankings: Philadelphia Phillies

Nobody can have an ugly loss or a huge win better than the Philadelphia Phillies. The good news is they can hit themselves out of problems. The bad news has been the pitching depth is one of the worst in baseball for a team with playoff aspirations. Young Phillies Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott are off to huge starts. It may take them a while to start cooking. Until they can find consistency, their spot in the MLB Power Rankings isn’t a very good one.

23) MLB Power Rankings: Chicago White Sox

Injuries to Tim Anderson and Yoan Moncada have definitely dampened the season for the Chicago White Sox. They’re still trying to figure out who they are and what works. Jake Burger is pushing for more playing time and it may help them to get some unexpected production from him. Pitching has definitely been a weakness of theirs with some major questions in the closer spot haunting the dreams of fans.

22) MLB Power Rankings: St. Louis Cardinals

Probably the biggest disappointment of the 2023 season thus far, the St. Louis Cardinals are getting a bunch of offense but not much help from their pitchers. Steven Matz continues to look like an epic bust while Miles Mikolas seems to have lost what made him so special. What’s most painful is how the Cardinals had more than enough bats to trade away this offseason to improve the pitching staff. They didn’t do much at all. In the early part of the season, they’re suffering in part because of it.

21) MLB Power Rankings: Cincinnati Reds

This should get Cincinnati Reds fans excited. They’re one spot ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals. While it’s more about how bad the Cardinals have been, the Reds haven’t been a complete doormat this year even if they did just give up nine runs in the first inning on Sunday. The Reds will have plenty of brutal losses this season. Let’s see if this week they can handle themselves against the Tampa Bay Rays. Young pitchers Graham Ashcraft and Nick Lodolo certainly appear ready for any challenge thrown their way.
