NWSL Power Rankings: Every team’s strengths and weaknesses
By Oliver Hunt
5. NJ/NY Gotham FC
Strength: Determination
Gotham stays in the game, working for every single second and earning every shot they take over the course of the full ninety. They proved this in their win against Orlando this weekend, ringing in the two latest NWSL goals in history. They show effort for the entire ninety minutes, pressing hard against their opponents and being unafraid to get a little dirty. Their ambition has paid off so far as they scrapped their way towards two wins.
Weakness: Detail work
With their eagerness comes a lack of detail work, with several balls being passed up to no one, or going just wide of goal. Gotham tends to build up their chances really quickly, executing passes too fast to get enough people forward to make anything of them. Every once in a while, this pays off in the way of a quick Lynn Williams run or a ready-and-waiting Ify Onumonu. But mostly it feels like that final pass and last piece of the puzzle is missing, but time can help with that as this team continues to work and gel together.
