Braves player to send down: Vaughn Grissom

Believe me, I wish I could answer this question honestly and say Marcell Ozuna.

Vaughn Grissom has a ton of talent, especially offensively, and has filled in admirably at shortstop with Orlando Arcia out. Nonetheless, once Arcia comes back, don’t be surprised if Grissom is sent back down to Gwinnett to continue working on his defensive game.

Grissom made an error in his Atlanta season debut and it showed exactly why Brian Snitker and Alex Anthopoulos were weary of him starting on Opening Day. He needs more time to perfect his craft, but he was rushed to the majors early thanks to the injury to Arcia.

Arcia is scheduled to come back any day now, and considering Atlanta just signed him to a contract extension, he will be their starting shortstop upon his return. The Braves also have depth at the position already, so keeping Grissom at the big-league level wouldn’t be smart, as he’ll need consistent reps to improve.

Unless the Braves plan on giving Grissom a starting DH spot, or everyday playing time, they should cut the chord and wait until he’s ready.
