Recent MLS news includes Brentford’s director of football Phil Giles praising Romeo Beckham who has been on loan at their B team from Inter Miami. FC Cincinnati forward Brenner is finalising a deal to join Udinese and former LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard has been linked with taking over at Olympiacos.

MLS news: Beckham to Brentford not for PR

Brentford director Giles has sung the praises of Beckham who has been on loan at the club since January for Inter Miami. Speaking on the High-Performance podcast, Giles said “He’s like his dad (David) in that he is a humble guy with a good work ethic and wants to do extra hours on the training round. Sometimes he has to be held back a bit from that.”

Beckham has played 11 times for the London club’s B team and even scored against Wealdstone in the Middlesex Senior Cup.

His deal with Brentford is set to expire on May 31st this year and is set to return to Miami. The Herons are currently 13th in the MLS Eastern Conference and have lost their last five games. Beckham who is yet to play for the senior side may well be needed by Phil Neville.

MLS news: Brenner to join Udinese

FC Cincinnati forward Brenner is set to join Udinese. According to Tom Bogert on MLS Soccer, “The deal is being finalized but is not done yet. Brenner will stay with Cincinnati until July before heading to Italy to start his career with Udinese ahead of the 2023-24 European season.”

The Brazilian has scored 37 goals in 69 MLS games for Cincinnati. The transfer shows again how attractive players from the league are to top clubs in Europe. It will be interesting to see how he gets on in Serie A.

The signing would again reflect how MLS is becoming more of a development league rather than a retirement home. Former Atlanta player Miguel Almiron who is starring for Newcastle at the moment is the best example of the talent that the league has produced.

MLS news: Gerrard to Olympiacos

Former LA Galaxy midfielder Gerrard has been linked with taking over at Olympiacos. The former Liverpool and England man was recently sacked by Aston Villa in the Premier League this season. Unai Emery has since succeeded him at Villa and has done exceptionally well taking them up to 6th in the division.

Gerrard had a good start to his managerial career at Rangers where he won the Scottish Premiership in 2021. However, he has been out of work since his departure from Villa. He needs to find the right club to get his career back on track. He has been linked with Trabzonspor in Turkey and the Poland national team.

The Greek website Sport-fm has confirmed that Gerrard is on Olympiacos’ shortlist to be their next manager but faces competition from Gennaro Gattuso. The article even mentioned Jesse Marsh as a possibility but admitted that the American intended to stay in the Premier League.
