2. Alex Reyes’ shoulder issues are a concern now for the Dodgers

Reyes was one of the Cardinals’ top prospects for many seasons. He had a string of injuries that kept him off the field, and he watched closely as he struggled through rehabilitation.

Once a promising starting pitcher, Reyes succeeded in 2021 as a closer. He made the All-Star team and had a 10-8 record with 29 saves. After the All-Star break, Reyes struggled and was ultimately removed from high-leverage situations. Unfortunately, he was put in the exact high-leverage position he and the team didn’t need as then-manager Mike Shildt put him in the pitch in the 10th inning of the NL Wild Card game, where Reyes gave up a walk-off home run to Chris Taylor. It was sad to see Reyes spend the next season trying to rehab his shoulder and return to form.

Reyes became a free agent after the 2022 season. Reyes ultimately opted for a change in scenery and signed with the Dodgers. Reyes, however,  is still working through shoulder issues and was placed on the 60-day injured list this week by the Dodgers.

Reyes’ struggles have been a real gut punch as the talented young man has so much potential. Hopefully, he will make a triumphant return to the mound someday.
