MLB rumors: Mariners signing, Cubs and Reds extension news

Left-hander Eric Stout and the Seattle Mariners are in agreement on a minor-league contract, a source said. The deal pays Stout $750,000 if he’s in the majors. If he’s not on the 26-man roster by a certain date, he may sign with Japan, Korea or Taiwan.

Outfielder Ian Happ and the Chicago Cubs agreed to a three-year, $61 million deal that pays Happ $20 million in 2024 and 2025 and $18 million in 2026. The deal includes a full no-trade clause, according to sources familiar with the deal.

It would not be a surprise if more extensions got done in the near future. One player to watch: Nick Lodolo. The left-hander has had discussions with the Cincinnati Reds, according to sources, though it’s unclear exactly where talks stand now.
